I can complete my 20 minutes of Membean Vocabulary Practice Weekly (Week 2: 10/21 to 10/24)

Complete weekly Membean minutes by Thursday at 9pm.

Membean Procedures:

1. Students log in and do interactive practice during the week, based on their own word knowledge and vocabulary level.

2. I require 20 minutes of practice per 4-day week. In class on Mondays, kids will be given the time to start their 20 minutes of practice. Sometimes you may finish during class, and other times you must complete at home.

3. Every Friday, I will check students’ practice minutes for the week. I only check Monday- Friday (by 8 am.) I only check on Fridays! I do not check weekend days because I do not want students doing homework on weekends. However, if kids want to do Membean on their own, they can do it at any time, I just won't check for that.

Assessment:

1. Membean checks for understanding and gives mini-quizzes throughout the practice sessions. Once a student demonstrates understanding, Membean introduces new words.

2. About every two weeks on Fridays, students take a 10 word quiz on the words they've learned.

3. Again, students who score less than proficient will work with the teacher to practice more and gain a better understanding before re-taking the quiz.

Note: Please review the Membean support links attached below.

  • If you are using the program correctly, you should be increasing your word power and word amount exponentially.
  • In the beginning, if you used the program last year, you will be reviewing words you may have already learned.
  • The Membean engine will remember your learning style and preferences and work with you to bring you up to where you left off last year.
  • How many words have you learned so far?
  • Are you progressing?

About Me

I started teaching almost twenty years ago, in Los Angeles, before moving to the Bay Area. I am very passionate about writing and I like working with students. Before teaching, I spent nearly twenty years working for an airline, traveling and discovering the world. These days, when I'm not teaching, I like having fun with my husband and our 9 year old daughter. During the summer we enjoy camping, hanging out at Santa Cruz Beach and exploring the redwoods of nearby state parks, splashing around in the pool and visiting family in Sacramento. A few of my favorite things are jewelry making, gardening, camping, reading, writing, traveling and being as close to nature as possible. I also like creating wonderful meals for friends and family. I love my new kitchen!

We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

It always seems impossible until it's done.

A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.

Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.

Nelson Mandela
